How the BSIS guard card lookup actually works

There is no separate BSIS website search. BSIS is a bureau inside the California Department of Consumer Affairs, and every registration it issues is published through the shared DCA licence database at search.dca.ca.gov. That is why 'bsis guard card search', 'bsis license lookup' and 'search dca bsis' all end at the same place.

The database is authoritative and free. No security company, training school or third-party site has a better copy of it, and any page charging you to 'run a guard card check' is reselling a public record. If a company tells you their officers cannot be looked up, that statement is itself the answer.

What each guard card status code means

The status line is the whole point of the lookup, and it is the part most people misread. A record existing does not mean the officer can work — plenty of expired registrants still appear in search results with their full history intact.

Treat anything other than 'Clear' as a hard stop for anyone about to stand a post on your property. If you are the officer, a delinquent status usually means renewal fees or continuing education hours lapsed, and it can typically be cured through the BSIS BreEZe account rather than by re-testing.

• ClearCurrent and valid. Confirm the expiration date is still in the future.
• DelinquentLapsed but inside the renewal window — not valid for work until renewed.
• Expired / CancelledNo longer a licence. Working on it is unlicensed activity.
• Suspended / RevokedState action taken. Do not allow this person to work your site.

How to find your own guard card number if you lost the card

You do not need the physical card to recover the number. Search your own last name and first name in the DCA lookup, filter to 'Security Guard', and match the city on the record — your registration number is printed on the result. That number is what an employer needs on day one, and it is what you use to log into BreEZe.

If nothing returns, the usual causes are a name recorded differently than you spell it (hyphenated, maiden, or middle name in the first-name field), a registration that never finished processing after fingerprinting, or a card that expired long enough ago to have been cancelled. A replacement card is ordered through BreEZe; the number itself does not change.
